The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has discredited a fraudulent press release circulating on social media and messaging platforms, which falsely announced a Computer-Based Test (CBT) shortlist as part of its ongoing recruitment exercise.

According to the NCS, the fake document claimed that a CBT was scheduled to take place in July 2025. However, the Service clarified that no such announcement was made and described the release as entirely fabricated.

“The press statement is misleading and did not emanate from the Nigeria Customs Service,” the agency said in an official response. “There is no scheduled CBT for July 2025 as claimed.”

The NCS further noted inconsistencies in the fake release, including discrepancies in its formatting and an e-signature that does not match the Service’s official standard. The recruitment timeline, it said, also contains errors inconsistent with any genuine NCS processes.

In light of the incident, the Service urged the public to disregard and avoid circulating the fraudulent information. It reaffirmed that all verified announcements will only be made available through its official website, verified social media handles, and reputable national newspapers.

The agency assured Nigerians that steps are being taken to trace the source of the misinformation and bring those responsible to book.

“We appreciate the vigilance of concerned Nigerians and remain committed to upholding transparency and integrity in all our operations,” the statement concluded.

The clarification was signed by Abdullahi Maiwada, Assistant Comptroller of Customs and National Public Relations Officer, on behalf of the Comptroller-General of Customs.
